CAREER

In January 2016, Kim participated in the Mnet reality-survival program Produce 101, which aimed to form an eleven-member girl group that would promote for a year under YMC Entertainment.
She represented Fantagio along with Choi Yoo-jung her best friend, and three other trainees from their company, eventually ranking eight in the show's finale on April 1, 2016. As a result, she debuted as a member of I.O.I alongside Yoojung. On May 4, 2016, I.O.I made their official debut with the single "Dream Girls".

Following separation from IOI and leaving the discipline of YMC Entertainment, Yoojung and Doyeon record a reality show in the United States titled Dodaeng's Diary in LA aired on TTVING Months later, Fantagio makes public their plans to debut a new girl group, whose name would be revealed later as Weki Mekiy of which, obviously Doyeon would be a part. The debut would occur on August 8, 2017 with the release of the song "I Don't Like Your Girlfriend"

In May 2018, Starship Entertainment and Fantagio revealed their plans to form a special unit with 4 girls from their respective groups Cosmic Girls and Weki Meki, which would be called WJMK. Which Yoojung was a part of. His song "Strong" was released on June 1, 2018, along with his music video.
